As you may know, Netscape 6 was released last month. And, in case you
are wondering ... no, they never did release a 5.0 version. Despite the wait and
the version number leapfrog, the new browser is disappointing and frustrating.
Disappointing because it really doesn't perform like a two-generation-removed version
of their last release. Frustrating because the darn thing is not backwards
compatible.
It is important to note that NetObjects Fusion 'Actions' do not work at all in Netscape 6!
It is also important to note that some coolmaps.com components originally
did not work either. But, that has changed. We have been hard at work fixing our
DHTML components. Here is a brief summary of what has and hasn't been done. Please
check with either each component's history page or the Component Update page for more detail.
Although Netscape 6 isn't even showing up as a blip in our
CounterStrike browser report, it is apparent that eventually Netscape/AOL will
be successful in making at least some market penetration. We will keep you
updated on our progress and the hits when/if they pick up.
If you have a site that makes heavy use of NOF Actions, you might consider
using ReDirector to send Netscape-6ers to a non-action page.
