Welcome to the sixth lesson of the Photoshop tutorial. In this lesson we will be making the minute markers and the wheel.
First we are going to make the hour marks on the bezel. For the placement of these marks you will need to use something to let you know where to place them. Zoom in to the ‘3 o’clock’ position on the bezel. Load the 8 x 2 pixel selection you saved as ‘Minute Marker’. Create a new layer called ‘m4’ by pressing the CTRL-SHIFT-N keys together. On the new layer, fill your selection with black. You should now have something that looks like Fig. 1.
Fig. 1
From the ‘Edit’ menu, select ‘Transform’ and then ‘Numeric’. In the numeric transformation properties box, there is a box in the lower left hand corner that will allow you to enter a numeric value for rotation. In this box, enter ‘30’ degrees, and hit ‘OK’. Your black line should now be at a 30-degree angle. Duplicate this layer by right clicking on the layer in the ‘Layers’ box and selecting ‘Duplicate Layer' from the menu that comes up. Name this other layer ‘m10’. Duplicate the layer again, and name it ‘m2’. Select the ‘m2’ layer you just duplicated by left clicking on that layer in the ‘Layers’ box. From the ‘Edit’ menu, select ‘Transform’ and then ‘Flip Horizontal’. Duplicate the ‘m2’ layer and call it ‘m8’. Duplicate the ‘m4’ layer again, and call it ‘m5’. Select the ‘m5’ layer, and rotate by 30-degrees again (‘Edit’ > ‘Transform’ > ‘Numeric’). Duplicate this layer and call it ‘m11’. Duplicate the ‘m11’ layer and call it ‘m1’. Flip the ‘m1’ layer vertically (‘Edit’ > ‘Transform’ > ‘Flip Vertical’). Duplicate the 'm1' layer and call it ‘m7’. Make yet another duplicate of the ‘m4’ layer and call it ‘m3’. Rotate the ‘m3’ layer by a negative 30-degrees (‘Edit’ > ‘Transform’ > ‘Numeric’ > ‘-30’). Duplicate the ‘m3’ layer and call it ‘m9’. You now have all of the markers except for the 12 and the 6. Before we create these we will need to distribute the markers. For this we will use star with 12 points. To save time, I’ve made a star for you. Save Fig. 2 to your computer, or <download my template> of the entire watch.
